Proposed Move From Urine To Hair?
Six large trucking companies are seeking the go-ahead from the FMCSA to use hair samples, instead of urine. These samples would be used as a more effective alternative for the Pre-Employment Screening process. These Carriers have evidence that shows hair provides a more reliable test for detecting substances. A viable alternative, these samples detected 4x as many substances as urine did in an independent study. Alternatively, Lewis Maltby of the National WorkRights Institute, says that this type of sampling is too unreliable. Maltby claims that substances may test positive, even if the applicant didn’t abuse them. This is because the testing can’t distinguish between internal, and external sources on the follicles.
