Trump Administration Loosening Obama’s Safety Rules
The Trump Administration is looking to loosen up some of the regulations set during Obama’s administration. A small hearing Dubbed, “Highway to Headache: Federal Regulations on the Small Trucking Industry” will hear statements from many individual owner-operators as well as owners from small firms. They believe that federal regulators have no clue how the industry really works, and all these cumbersome rules interfere with the way they do business. Currently, drivers can drive 11 hours in a 14 hour period, but then must rest for 10 hours. The current rules do not take into consideration traffic, or lengthy loading/unloading delays. If a carrier is stuck in traffic for 4 hours, they will lose money by being prohibited to add extra time to make up for the losses.
