Public Fear Slowing Down Self-Driving Progress
While numerous advancements have been made towards automated trucking, public fear still slows the process down. Carriers and developers feel the only was to overcome the fear, is to demonstrate and inform. The public, as of right now, still feel that automation isn’t safe. 3 out of 4 Americans say that they would be afraid to sit in a self-driving vehicle. and 1 in 5 believe that vehicles are safe driving themselves. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has classified automation in 6 distinct levels. Level one, no feet, has been available in the form of cruise mode for many years. The varying levels of automation look to help drivers, such as auto-braking and lane change assisting, without removing the driver.
