Michigan Tests Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Devices
The Michigan Department Of Transportation has started working on a 3 mile communications project. 3M will provide lane markings, smart sign technology, and short range devices, throughout the 3 miles. The project is expected to take 4 months to finish, and will look at advanced metrics to mitigate traffic, and reduce crashes. In January, they joined the Smart Belt Coalition, a partnership whose goal is to forward the advance of autonomous vehicles. So far, they are the front runner in V2I technology, and looks to work with the University of Michigan, MSU, The Pennsylvania Department Of Transportation, and the Ohio Turnpike to use the findings to advance their collective research on autonomous vehicles.
