Michigan Tests Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Devices
The Michigan DOT has started working on a 3 mile communications project. 3M will provide lane markings, smart sign technology, and short range devices, throughout the 3 miles. The project is expected to take 4 months to finish, and will look at advanced metrics to mitigate traffic, and reduce crashes. In January, Michigan joined the Smart Belt Coalition, a partnership whose goal is to forward the advance of autonomous vehicles. So far, Michigan is the front runner in V2I technology, and looks to work with the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, The Pennsylvania DOT, and the Ohio Turnpike to use the findings to advance their collective research.
