The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, believes that inspection exemptions are hurting drivers by not providing a uniformed experience for every driver. Some inspectors are offering so many exemptions, that many rules aren’t even being enforced in some areas. The CVSA is a non-profit organization looking to ensure equal inspection protocol for every driver that is stopped. The decrease in the standard or trucking comes with an even larger increase in trucking accidents, as well as deaths. If a truck is not properly maintained, an accident on the highway could be catastrophic. Some carriers are looking to be exempt from the ELD maximum driving hour rule, citing long sitting times while being loaded as non-driving times. This opportunity hinders the drivers safety, and sets a poor precedent.
