Otto Believes Automated Trucking is 10 Years Away
Automated trucking is only 10 years away, according to Lior Ron, co-founder of Otto, an autonomous trucking company Uber bought for $680 million last year. This analysis directly differs from Secretary of State Steve Mnuchin who believes the advancement of AI wont impact us for 50 to 100 years. While avoiding the topic of a mass decrease of human jobs in trucking, Ron believes that humans will still be used to manually operate the vehicles in city settings, but the role of a trucking driver might change. While already short on drivers, operating a vehicle for 11 hours straight can prove to be a very demanding and dangerous job.
