Low Visibility Causes Massive Pileup
At 9 am on New Years Eve, 30 cars were involved in a pileup. In Bakersfield California, two passenger vehicles struck each other going southbound on Interstate 5. 12 more accidents stemmed from these disabled vehicles. A 50 year old man, and a 35 year old woman from the initial crash have died. Their names are not being released, at the moment. The LA Times reported that visibility was only about 500 feet at the time of the accidents. Some, if not all of these accidents stemming from the initial crash could’ve been avoided if drivers had been alerting other drivers via CB radios. The road was closed for about 10 hours after the crash to make sure the road was clear of debris.
