FMCSA Announces Final Rule
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced its final rule on the Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse last Friday. Starting in 2014, This ruling establishes a Central Database where government officials and employers can view drug & alcohol testing records for all commercial drivers in the USA. The FMCSA estimates that this database will save over $42 million, mostly from a decrease in vehicle crashes. Director Scott Darling stated that this is a safety win for the general public, and the entire commercial vehicle industry. The Clearinghouse will allow employers to review prospective drivers records who have test positive for these offenses, and hire accordingly.
