Uber acquires Otto
Uber has just announced its acquisiting of Otto, an autonomous truck start-up. While working as a former Google Employee, Anthony Levandowski, had been working on autonomous cars before starting Otto. Along with his team of ex-Google employees, they will be working directly with Travis Kalanick, Uber CEO and Co-founder. Rather than creating a new car built in with the self driving technology software, Otto looked to create an attachment on top of the car. They have been working on an autonomous Class 8 truck. By creating a network of autonomous trucks, they believe they can map out the safest way to travel as well as increase efficiency for the other trucks in their fleet.
