Indiana Tests Embedded Scales
Indiana has unveiled a system that looks to catch truckers trying to cheat the system. They will be the first state to test a new weight system, pending legislation. Kapsch TrafficCom out of McLean, Virginia has come out with a new weight system that uses lasers and embeds scales in the highway roads to measure truck weights. From there, the information is compressed into a virtual file to determine if the truck is in compliance. Unlike weight stations, that are not open all day and all night, this system will work 24/7. Similar embedded systems are already in use in France and the Czech Republic.
